Original Condition on Closing Day

Plans - Everything will be replaced - floor, windows, fan, lights, and walls.  The cedar siding won the walls will be removed for reuse on the exterior as the french door will be replaced by a window.  Other doors will also be replaced and will need the siding.  The den walls will be drywall.  Moulding will be replaced and painted white while leaving the doors as natural wood.  Brown electrical units will be replaced with white.






Week 26 - Monday, April 20

Caulked moulding.



Week 25 - Monday, April 13

No significant changes as work was focused in other areas.

Week 24 - Monday, April 6

No significant changes as work was focused in other areas.

Week 23 - Monday, March 30

No significant changes as work was focused in other areas.

Week 22 - Monday, March 23

Installed mouldings.




Week 21 - Monday, March 14

Cut and painted moulding.



Week 20 - Monday, March 9

No significant changes as work was focused in other areas.

Week 19 - Monday, March 2

No significant changes as work was focused in other areas.

Week 18 - Monday, February 24

Floor installation was completed.  Installed ceiling lights.  Finished electrical work.



Week 17 - Monday, February 17

Traced electrical circuit breakers and installed switch/outlet covers.



Week 16 - Monday, February 10

Installed HVAC vent.


Week 15 - Monday, February 3

Painted walls.  Installed door frame.



Week 14 - Monday, January 27

Floors were stained and polyurethane applied.  Started to cut moulding.  Walls were primed.




Week 13 - Monday, January 20

Wood floor installed.  Drywall installation completed.




Week 12 - Monday, January 13

Painted ceiling.  Drywall installation started.  Electrical boxes moved and switches, receptacles replaced with white units.



Week 11 - Monday, January 6

Windows and insulation were installed.  Plywood subfloor was installed.



Week 10 - Monday, December 30

Christmas - no work.

Week 9 - Friday, December 20

No significant changes as work was focused in other areas.

Week 8 - Monday, December 16

No significant changes as work was focused in other areas.

Week 7 - Monday, December 9

Removed siding and window/door mouldings from walls.  Siding removal was a slow process since I wanted to save as much as possible for outside use in the areas where windows would replace doors.  It was very brittle and I managed to save about 1/3.  Nailed subfloor to joists.




Week 6 - Monday, December 2

Due to Thanksgiving travel, no significant changes as work was focused on vendor contacts.

Week 5 - Monday, November 26

Removed subfloor. Cleaned up nails in floor.



Week 4 - Monday, November 19

Removed carpet. Started removal of siding on front wall.


Week 3 - Monday, November 12

No significant changes as work was focused in other areas.

Week 2 - Monday, November 5

No significant changes as work was focused in other areas.

Week 1 - Monday, October 28

Removed shelf and brackets, antenna, speaker wires, and nails

Closing Day - Tuesday, October 22 We closed on the new house on October 22, 2019.  Immediately after closing we headed to the house.  Susan's plan was to have lunch on the deck but the weather was no cooperating.  Instead, we had lunch inside while looking at the new view - at least as much as we could see with the weather. I did take lots of photos in order to document the work we were about to undertake.  My plan is to take photos each Monday to show our progress.  The work is now focused on the interior of the main level.  That is also the focus of these photos.  So these are the "Before" photos. Week 1 -  Monday, October 28 The first week of our renovation work is in the books.  Our work schedule looks like it will follow a similar pattern.  We will work a full day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Wednesday will be "shopping day" where we visit vendors to get bids, buy products, and see options with our own eyes.  Saturday is college footba

Week 2 - Monday, November 5

Photos taken on or before Monday, November 5. Week 2 of our renovation work was a lot harder than the first week.  I have determined that this house is pretty well put together.  It took all week just to get the shower and tub out.  I did take some time to start putting things back together and allow Susan to do some of the lighter work. Week 4 - Monday, November 19

 This week was one step but several steps forward.  I tried to take up the wood floor in the great room and discovered that it was glued to a chipboard subfloor.  The effort to get 3 feet of floor removed told me that this was not the best use of my time.  We hired a crew to remove all of the floors on the main level down to the lowest subfloor.  It will take them several days and several tons of debris, but we will have a single level of flooring on which to build.  With 2 wood floors, tile floors, carpet, and vinyl floors, the layers were at different levels. At the same time, we changed our thoughts on the mouldings.  We originally planned to keep the traditional mouldings but paint them white to update the look.  As our decorating plans evolved, we decided that a craftsman look appealed to us.  So I ordered the crew to take it all down.  That means the priming and caulking we had done was wasted effort.  Luckily, we hadn't made it far.  It also meant that more damage was do
